Andy Pickering

Hampshire Master Thatcher

I started my 5 year apprenticeship in 1986 and have been thatching ever since.

I did my first solo job in 1992 and have never had an unsatisfied customer.

I am known for a high standard of work among other thatchers and often lend my services to them on repeat business.

On my own jobs I work alone and do not use sub contractors, so I am completely responsible for all the work.

My overheads are small, I have no loans or h.p. outlays and my quotes reflect this.

I am fussy about material quality and check reed and straw dealers before buying.

In 1993 my father and I built a new build thatch. We spent  18 months building a pair of semi-detached thatched cottages: one for him the other for me. We read in the local paper that it was Eastleigh  Borough Council's first planning application for a thatched new build in 250 years.

Being the son of a builder I have learnt how to replace or repair broken rafters, re-point chimneys and lead flashing.

I have thatched roofs from well tops to huge tied barns.

I will undertake all aspects of thatching from a complete roof to rodent damage.

I am a member of the National Society of Master Thatcher’s.

I am generally a Hampshire thatcher and work in all parts of Hampshire but please still contact me if outside area.

After you have made contact (phone or email), I will come out to quote as soon as possible and return my quote in 5 working days.
If you are happy with the quote we can agree an estimated start date(usually 6-8 months from present day).
